The ghost town of Bodie has been a favorite of mine since the late 70’s as a kid. It is an old town in a state of arrested decay since most.y everyone left in the late 40’s. Everything is left as it was when the mines dried up and folks moved on to other towns. Bodie is now a state park and is open most of the year for everyone to visit, learn and soak up all the rich history of this town and former citizens.
Three times a year the park hosts Ghost Walks during the summer. This is a great time to learn about the spiritual activities still haunting the different buildings in town and who those spirits may actually be. In addition, you get to stay in the park well past closing, which provided a great opportunity for some cool long exposure photos.
The Church is probably the most well known of all the buildings. The band U2 filmed a video here in town back in 1986 while also taking photos that appeared on their Joshua Tree album as well as the concert program when they toured to support that album. Additionally the hair metal band Cinderella filmed one of their videos here in front of the church. The Boone General Store was owned by a relative of Daniel Boone himself.
The ghost legends centered around some buildings, those in photos 6, 7 & 12, where spirits of former citizens still reside to haunt the buildings and make their presence known at times. I learned a lot of cool historical info on this night, myself my family and my best friend and his wife all came away with having had a great experience and some pretty awesome photos as well.
Please consider supporting Bodie for everyone to learn from and enjoy for many years to come. You can donate at BodieFoundation.org . You can also follow me on Instagram @alphalandscape40
