Ever since I was a kid, riding in the back of my parents Country Squire Ford station wagon (the very back where the seats face each other), I was always fascinated by the small towns we would pass thru while driving to Mammoth. One of those is Randsburg. The main little gold rush town portion is located a mile off Highway 395. Always wanted to stop and visit, but never did until recently.
Located at an elevation of 3500 ft., this gold and silver mining town was started back in 1895. Originally there were over 3000 residents, but today there are only about 70 residents. The part of town in my photos below is the original Main Street. Some buildings are staged as they would have looked back in the day. The others are still functioning shops like the General Store and restaurant (they have great burgers and shakes!) as well as a few gift shops. Definitely worth a pit stop for an hour or two to explore and enjoy!
