First time visiting the Trona Pinncles earlier this year. It’s been on my checklist of fantastic places to visit and photograph for a while now and I will say that it definitely did not disappoint!
Reading ahead about the area, as well as friends having visited here in the past, I would agree that it definitely looks otherworldly and would make for some great movie or TV backdrops. The landscape is comprised of over 500 spires and some are over 140 feet high above the Searles Dry Lake basin. This area was once all under water several thousands years ago. The pinnacles are are very similar in composition to the Tufa towers at Mono Lake. The calcium carbonate is the white stuff on the ground in the last few pictures.
Walking around for these photo shoots, I like to maximize, but pack light. I have been using the https://www.hexbrand.com/collections/camera/products/ranger-blackout-camo-dslr-sling-v2 for a majority of my travels. This bag looks cool, has enough room for my Sony A7R3, along with 2 additional lenses (typically my Sigma 28-70, My Tamron 28-200 and my Sony G 35mm prime), along with additional zippered pouch sections that I put my lens filters/cables/lens brush into (not all in the same pocket though.
