Rambling thru the ghost town of Mammoth City

For all of the times I’ve been coming to Mammoth since a kid and now well into adult times, and for as many times as I’ve been fishing and hiking in the lakes basin, this whole time I have never noticed or been to see the old remnants of Mammoth City. This is how the town of Mammoth Lakes got started, way back in the gold rush days.

I also never knew that the man who founded Mammoth City was also the same person that founded/Started Red’s Meadow pack station. He had the foresight to pivot to recreational offerings as the gold was no longer being found.

As you can see below, a lot of the buildings still stand. The area around the stamp mill is roped off due to other hazards still present in that part. The two-person outhouse was unique and something I’ve never seen before in the other ghost towns I’ve visited. We really enjoyed seeing this part of Mammoth history and will definitely be back again.
